Sung Choi first created Clae in 2001 as a side project of casual skate shoes to supplement his main gig as footwear director at Lakai. Budgeting and scheduling crunches caused the line to disappear prematurely, but after a three-year "incubation" period, it's back with new money and an understated sensibility that's about sleekness and comfort, not one-upping the next man.
